Very forgiving fledglings !

Hadn't written yet about our Shama drama when we were expecting Hurricane  Douglas. We were worried that the hurricane would blow the birds away so Don set out the bird cage (the one we bought  when we tried to save  Eeepie 3's life).  With Papa Bird sitting on the balcony watching, Don set the cage out and lured the chicks (each separately) in the cage with mealworms.   Then put his hand over the opening to the cage, shut the door quickly and tossed a towel over the cage. Bird (the dad) looked on approvingly as if to say "What a relief! I've been trying to get this kids to leave for over a week now! Good riddance! " We still can't believe how sanguine he was about the entire episode.

The chicks were taken into the lower back living room which had been all boarded up so very dark inside. They were let loose. Our concerns that they might bash themselves into the windows or be really scared were unfounded. They stayed over night and next morning the wood (only over the door, not the windows so they only had one area of light to fly to so they would not bash themselves against the window) was taken down, the sliding glass doors opened  and they woke up and happily flew out.

We really though that they would hold that against us but within an hour they were back on the upstairs balcony demanding their breakfast!

PHOTOS TO COME !
